From the Klein Matterhorn, the route first runs flat over the Breithorn Plateau and along the Breithorn, where you approach the two 4,000-meter twins Castor and Pollux. Then you reach the Schwarztor, the gap between Roccia Nera (eastern end of the Breithorn) and Pollux. Now the route takers face a long powder snow descent through a labyrinth of impressive glacier crevasses and séracs down to the Gorner Glacier and further to Zermatt.
