The Matterhorn app is the ideal travel companion for your visit to Zermatt – Matterhorn. Which cable cars, ski slopes, bike or hiking trails are open? Is the weather likely to change? Can I book a table in my favourite restaurant? Where is the next e-bus in the village in real time? All these services are just a few clicks away! Simply magical!
You can access the webcams, weather forecast and live panoramic map on the home page. It’s possible to view the live e-bus timetable, reserve a table in the online restaurant reservation system or look for an event you’d like to attend.
Want to know which lifts and runs are open, the weather forecast for your stay or when the next train leaves? You can find all this information on the live page, alongside webcam images and the latest warnings from Zermatt Bergbahnen.
Looking for ideas for activities, restaurants or bars? Maybe you'd rather relax in a spa? Let the app inspire you! It’s easy to find the places you want on the map using the filter function.
You can book your cable car or travel ticket in the Ticket Shop, avoiding long queues at the ticket counter.
Create your own profile and enter your interests to receive personalised content. You can also sign up to receive warnings about cable cars and runs or push notifications about the Visp–Zermatt route. There is also an overview of purchased tickets, table reservations and saved favourites in your profile.

The Matterhorn app makes sure you always have all the important information for your stay in Zermatt at your fingertips. Whether it’s open lifts, weather forecasts, table reservations or the live e-bus updates – the app makes your Zermatt experience even easier and more magical!
Where can I get the Matterhorn App? You can download the Matterhorn app in the App Store or in the Google Play Store. Search for ‘Matterhorn app’ and install the app on your mobile phone.
Which devices are suitable for the Matterhorn App? The app supports iOS and Android. The app may not display correctly on older devices and iPads.
What are the system requirements? The Matterhorn app requires at least iOS 10 or Android 5.0.
What tickets can I buy with the Matterhorn App? You can book cable car or travel tickets in the Matterhorn App Shop and load them directly onto an existing KeyCard or SwissPass, allowing you to pass directly through the turnstile without queuing at ticket offices. If you don't have a KeyCard or SwissPass, you will receive a QR code you can use at the turnstile for single or return journeys.
How do I access my tickets after purchasing? If you already have a KeyCard or a SwissPass, you can load the ticket onto your card. The ticket is activated in just a few minutes (max. 30 minutes). If you don’t have a KeyCard or a SwissPass, you can either pick up your ticket easily from one of the twelve ticket machines or collect it from one of the Zermatt Bergbahnen AG sales points, from the Zermatt Tourism counter or from the Gornergrat Bahn (signposted pick-up point). If you do not have a data carrier, such as a smart phone, a deposit of CHF 5.00 per ticket will be charged at the point of sale. This deposit will be refunded when you return the ticket in Zermatt.
How can I buy a ticket for someone else? You can enter and add the people you want using the ‘Edit group member’ function. The people you enter are saved in the app, making it easy to buy tickets again in the future.
What payment methods can I use in the Matterhorn App? Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard), Twint, Apple Pay, Google Pay.
Can I use vouchers in the Matterhorn App Shop? Yes, you can redeem Zermatt Bergbahnen AG vouchers and Zermatt Tourism destination vouchers at the checkout. It doesn't matter whether you pay the full price or benefit from a discount.
I am entitled to half-fare and GA discounts from SBB. What discounts do I receive and where can I purchase tickets? Half-fare and GA discounts give you 50% off the following tickets:
Single & return journeys to all stations (incl. Gornergrat)
Single & return journeys on the Täsch – Zermatt shuttle
Peak2Peak ticket, Gornergrat round trip ticket
Combi tickets
Bike passes The half-fare and GA discount gives you 25% off the Peak Pass.
To benefit from the discounted tickets, you must load your ticket onto the SwissPass and have a valid half-fare or GA travelcard.
How can I load a ticket onto my KeyCard/SwissPass? You need to create an account before you book a ticket. You can add as many people as you like to the ticket under ‘People’. In addition to entering first name, last name and date of birth of ticket holders (mandatory, as tickets are personalised), you can also select your choice of data carrier.
If you have a KeyCard, you can top it up using the data carrier number or by scanning the QR code on the back of the KeyCard.
If you have a Swisspass, you can top it up using your Swisspass ID and your place of residence (postcode).
What is the cashback guarantee? The cashback guarantee ensures that the customer is refunded the cost of the services booked in the Matterhorn app if they are unable to travel. The cashback guarantee costs CHF 10.00 per booking. Customers can cancel their booking themselves up to 48 hours before the start of validity/travel date. This can be found under the ‘Me’ section in the ‘Purchases’ tab. No refunds can be made for the Cashback Guarantee.
How do I know if my booking has been completed successfully? Once the booking process has been completed, you will immediately receive a binding booking confirmation sent from us to your e-mail address. Your booking will also be visible in the ‘Me’ section under the ‘Purchases’ tab.
Why do I have to specify my interests when installing the app? The Matterhorn app is an interactive tool that provides you with the information that interests you. By telling us what you like, you will receive information that is tailored to you.
Do I have to register for the Matterhorn App? To book tickets using the Matterhorn app, you need to register by creating an account. You can do this when you first install the app in the ‘Shop’ section.
Will my account be deleted if I delete the app? And if I want to download the app again later, do I have to create a new account? No, your account remains active. You can delete your account under the profile settings. If you download the app again, you can log in with your existing account.
Will I get my money back if I don't use services purchased in the Matterhorn App? Your purchase is binding as soon as you have successfully completed the purchase process. The terms and conditions of Zermatt Bergbahnen AG and Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn apply.
Customers are recommended to take out additional insurance when purchasing a multi-day pass. ‘SkiCare’ (surcharge CHF 5.00/day) offers customers from abroad temporary and subsidiary assistance insurance, which covers rescue, transport and treatment costs in the event of a skiing accident. The ‘PassProtect’ insurance (surcharge CHF 3.00/day) covers the reimbursement of your ski pass, ski hire and ski lessons in the event of an accident, illness or unfavourable weather conditions. It is also possible to insure season passes and annual passes. To find out more, go to www.skicare.ch. How long is a ticket valid? Single and return journeys (incl. Täsch – Zermatt shuttle tickets ) are valid as follows:
Ski passes, peak passes and bike passes are only valid on the days of the validity period.
Are the purchased tickets transferable? No, all tickets are personal and non-transferable.
What happens to my personal data (name, e-mail address, etc.)?

What does the Matterhorn App need authorisation for?
Location
For optimum use of the Explore function, the GPS function must be active so that the Matterhorn app can find restaurants, shops or sights in your area, for example. The same applies if you want the timetable to show you the next stop in the area.
Internet access
The Matterhorn app requires Internet access for timetable data, live information (such as open/closed runs and facilities) and ticket data, so that the app can answer your enquiries.
How can I activate/deactivate the push messages? In the ‘Me’ section under ‘My subscriptions’ in the settings, you can subscribe to alerts about lifts and runs, road reports about the Zermatt - Visp route or news about events and special deals as push messages.
