• ❄ Winter season: December - April Zermatt in winter is pure magic. The village and the surrounding mountains are wrapped in a white cloak, and in the evening the twinkling lights create a warm, cosy atmosphere. The Zermatt - Matterhorn destination is also blessed with sunshine, and the days get longer and longer as the season progresses. Whether you want to get active or simply enjoy the winter sun on one of the numerous terraces - you'll find the perfect winter experience here.

• 🌼Short spring: May Spring in the mountains is short, but shows a special beauty. The snow gradually melts, the birds return, chirping, and the Matterhorn village continues to offer many experiences. Whether sightseeing on the Gornergrat or in the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise or an exciting hike on the culture trail - all this is also possible in the mountain spring.

• ☀ Summer season: June - August The mountain summer is refreshing and a real balm for the soul. Colourful flowers bloom everywhere and the larches and meadows glow in lush green. The nature around Zermatt opens up for countless adventures. Cool glacial lakes invite you to linger and the species-rich animal world can now be observed particularly well.

• 🍂 Magical autumn: September - November The golden autumn - our insider tip. The days are getting shorter but by no means less beautiful. On the contrary: autumn in the mountains enchants with an impressive play of colours. Nature gradually prepares for hibernation and the countless larch trees on the slopes around Zermatt colour the landscape in bright gold.

A large proportion of CO₂ emissions are generated when travelling to your destination. From a sustainability perspective, it is therefore worth staying a few days longer. If you take your time, you can also experience the local landscape, culture and traditions more intensively. Our destination offers so much - allow yourself time to enjoy the diversity of the impressive nature around you. You can do without - the village of Zermatt has always been car-free, but it offers a variety of ways to get around comfortably. A special attraction is the customised electric vehicles, which are an experience. E-taxis or hotel shuttles will get you to your destination quickly and comfortably.

The free e-bus, which travels on two routes to the village's most important places, provides additional mobility. The current departure times and routes can be found in the Matterhorn app or here.

A nostalgic highlight is a carriage ride - an experience like in the old days. Or you can get around like the locals: environmentally friendly on foot or by bike through the village.

And what's the best way to get here? The easiest and most comfortable way to get here is by public transport. Your experience begins with a relaxing train journey with breathtaking panoramic views. From Visp, you change directly to the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway, which takes you to Zermatt without changing trains.

If you like to have your hands free to take breathtaking photos on the journey, you can use the practical SBB luggage service - your luggage will be waiting for you at the foot of the Matterhorn without you having to worry about it.

Valais delights with numerous culinary specialities and a particularly fine selection awaits you in Zermatt: Cheese from the Summer Alps, traditional Valais dried meat, the unmistakable rye bread fresh from the bakery and even locally brewed beer. Regional products can help support shorter supply chains and local value creation. Also consider their origin, seasonality and production methods. Many restaurants label these ingredients on their menus - look out for them!

The Zermatt - Matterhorn destination is an alpine oasis surrounded by spectacular natural beauty, wild mountain landscapes and rich flora and fauna. In order to protect this valuable habitat, it is particularly important to behave carefully and respectfully. Good preparation and up-to-date information are essential, as conditions in the mountains can change rapidly.

🏔 Whether you're hiking, biking or skiing: Use the designated routes and paths. You can find piste maps as well as bike and hiking maps on our website, in the app or at the tourist office. The routes are well signposted throughout the area and specific wildlife and forest protection zones are clearly marked Why is it so important to pay attention to these markings? Nature gives us wonderful moments, whether it's alpine flowers in bloom or the sight of a marmot sunbathing on a rock. We should stay on the marked paths so that the flora can develop in its natural habitat and wild animals can find refuges and protection. In this way, we all help to preserve this alpine diversity and ensure that everyone finds a place here.

🔥 Lighting fires in places not specifically designated for this purpose, as well as camping in the wild, is prohibited out of respect for and to protect nature.

🍃 A picnic in the countryside is wonderfully relaxing and a wonderful way to enjoy the mountain landscape. Important: Make sure you take your rubbish with you and don't leave anything behind in the mountains. Even chamois and ibex don't take kindly to plastic waste or paper tissues in their environment. It is best to collect the rubbish in a bag and take it back to the village where you can dispose of it properly.
