If you set out to explore the winter hiking area of the Zermatt – Matterhorn destination, you’ll find around 70 kilometres of marked trails. A few important tips:
Walk only on marked winter hiking trails (purple signposts).
Always check the trail status before starting your hike.
In case of avalanche risk, check if the trail is open (see signs at lift stations).
Mountain weather changes fast – bring warm clothing (jumper, winter jacket).
Wear solid winter shoes and carry enough food and water.
Inform someone about your planned route and check in when you arrive.
Watch weather changes and turn back in case of doubt.
