Sustainability is central to the Zermatt – Matterhorn destination. But the only way to ensure long-term success is through collective action. In this section, our service partners from different sectors introduce themselves and report on how they are tackling sustainability individually. These exciting and inspirational approaches all pursue a common goal: a sustainable future for nature, visitors and local people.
Tradition Julen combines tourism, agriculture, and energy production. Paul-Marc Julen is the third generation to run these diverse businesses: two hotels, several restaurants, apartments and a farm with its own biogas plant.
The interplay between tourism and agriculture allows resources to be used responsibly, securing a sustainable future. The biogas plant closes the loop between tourism and energy production, with renewable energy generated from organic waste. At the same time, ecological fertiliser is produced, which in turn is used in agriculture.
This creates a holistic cycle that benefits everyone: the environment, visitors and the region.
