Schwarzsee (cable car station)

Escape everyday life and experience the adventure at Schwarzsee, where the ‘myth of the Matterhorn’ becomes tangible. At any time of year, a hike around the lake awakens new longings and the mysterious atmosphere enhances the emotional impact of the place. On the shore of the lake is the small chapel ‘Maria zum Schnee’, where many mountaineers offer their gratitude after a successful ascent of the Matterhorn. A highlight is the impressive photo point with the Zermatt Letters, the perfect place for snapshots in front of the Matterhorn.

Barren mountain landscapes, majestic peaks and a refreshing wind await you at Schwarzsee. The alpine gravel landscape with small streams and lakes invites you to explore. The Matterhorn Glacier Trail leads from Trockener Steg to Schwarzsee and shows the traces left behind by the glacier and how these have influenced the flora and fauna. Mountain bikers will find exciting trails and skiers and snowboarders will not be left out either, with fast descents literally at the foot of the Matterhorn.
