Marmot fountain

The fountain with its bronze marmots is a much-loved landmark at the heart of the resort, equally popular with locals and visitors.

Description

An entire marmot family gathers around the gently bubbling fountain. The more golden the animals appear, the more often they have been touched. A clear sign of how popular they are with both locals and visitors.

The marmot sculptures were created in 1948 by the artist Eduard Sandoz and gifted to Zermatt. The fountain is also known as the “Prato Borni Fountain”, named after the former name of Zermatt. On the back of the fountain stands an impressive life-sized bronze ibex, watching over the square.
