Insights into an extraordinary cable car project

The InfoCube is an information centre that tells the story of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing through images, film clips and interactive content. The story spans from the initial ideas over 80 years ago, through the planning and construction of the two 3S cable cars, Matterhorn Glacier Ride I and II, to the completion of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing in 2023. This is complemented by insights into the technology and materials used, as well as facts and figures relating to the project.

Building in the high mountains presents particular challenges. Short construction phases, extreme weather conditions and the high altitude place great demands on people, materials and technology. The InfoCube, which is open all year round, offers fascinating insights into this cable car project; it is well worth a visit whatever the weather and admission is free.
