You don’t need any mountaineering skills, ropes or crampons to reach the summit of the Klein Matterhorn. Just step off the Matterhorn Glacier Ride and into the summit lift and up you go. Then you mount a flight of steps, and the summit cross is almost within touching distance.
The hamlet of Tufteren (2,215 m) seems to belong to a long-gone age, with its small wooden barns and stores (“Gadi”, plural “Gadini”). For an authentic photo featuring old wooden houses, a flower-filled meadow and the Matterhorn, this is the perfect spot.
Zermatt is proud of its Old Village, home to more than 30 buildings constructed in the traditional style of the barns and stores of the upper Valais. Many sit on flat stone slabs balanced on stilts to keep out mice. Wonderful for photographers!
