Never seen the Matterhorn? Or not seen it in ages? Now is the perfect time to experience the magic of Zermatt up close.
Queen of the Alps
At a height of 4,478 metres, the majestic Matterhorn – surely the best known mountain in Europe – stretches out across a breathtaking Alpine panorama. The stand-out emblem of Switzerland lies at the border of the canton of Valais between Zermatt und the Italian Breuil-Cervinia – heaven for nature lovers with its romantic views of the surrounding countryside. The symmetrical pyramid shape of the peak reaching into the heavens is what makes the mountain a unique natural wonder.
Mountain panorama highlights
When the sun is shining there is a huge variety of Matterhorn attractions to choose from. One of top destinations is the Gornergrat: you can enjoy an unforgettable view of the Matterhorn and the surrounding mountains from the viewing platform on the 3,000 metre high mountain ridge. You can also admire the Matterhorn from the Rothorn, a view which promises to enchant young and old alike. The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is the highest summer ski area in Europe and is open all year round.
Highest alpine crossing
At approximately 3,500 metres above sea level, you can cross the border between Switzerland and Italy. Numerous attractions await as you make the Alpine crossing, including the highest glacier palace in the world in the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise or the viewing platform where you can see 38 four thousand feet mountains and 14 glaciers in three different countries.
