Between 1961 and 1964, a 74-meter-high water dam was built far back in the Mattertal valley to impound the water from the surrounding glaciers and streams. The Zmutt pumping station located there is today the most powerful station of the Grande Dixence system. By means of four pumps, about 140 million m3 of water are transported through a tunnel into the hydroelectric power plant each season.
Under expert guidance, you will have the opportunity to discover how the Zmutt hydroelectric power station works and to view the Grand Dixence installations around Zermatt on a 3D model.
