On 5 July 2025, the Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon will be hosting runners for an exceptional alpine adventure.
Starting in St. Niklaus, the 42.195-kilometre course climbs up to the Riffelberg, with an elevation gain of 1,469 metres. Participants will pass through varied landscapes, from the Vispertal to the resort of Zermatt, before tackling a demanding climb to Sunnegga and Riffelalp. For the most experienced runners, the Ultra Marathon extends the challenge to the Gornergrat (3,089 metres above sea level), adding 3.4 kilometres and 514 metres of elevation gain.
The weekend will begin on 4 July with entertainment in Zermatt, including the Hörnli Kids' Run and concerts. Spectators can follow the race aboard the ‘Mobile Grandstand’, a special train operated by the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn that runs parallel to the marathon.
Registration, which is limited, opens in mid-August on the official website.
An exceptional athletic challenge combining performance and spectacular scenery in the heart of the Valais Alps.
