Description

There are several options to get to the starting point of the route: Either you start biking from the village, join after the short train ride from Furi, or choose the more relaxed option via the Matterhorn Express to Schwarzsee and ride the gravel road down to Stafelalp.

From Stafelalp, a gravel road leads to an impressive power plant. The wide gravel road gradually develops into a narrower trail. The landscape also changes: the trees give way to a barren landscape. On the moraine of the Zmutt Glacier, the bike path runs up to under the Schönbielhütte. Soon after, you reach the last section of the path, which goes steeply uphill and is not very easy to ride. Alternatively, you can save the last effort by leaving the bikes down below and walking up to the hut.

Renovation of Schönbiel Hut – Important Information

Schönbiel Hut will be renovated in summer 2026. Between 20 June 2026 and 1 August 2026, the hut will remain open as usual, but there may be noise emissions, limited availability of certain areas, and adjustments to hut operations. Accommodation and meals will be provided, but comfort may be limited.
From 2 August 2026, the hut will be completely closed due to the renovation.
