The Gornergrat Railway valley station is just 50 metres from Zermatt railway station.
The train takes you from Zermatt to the Gornergrat at an altitude of 3,089 metres above sea level 365 days a year. During the ride, you will enjoy unforgettable views of the mountain landscape and the majestic Matterhorn in the middle of it, as well as 28 other four-thousand-metre peaks, including the imposing Dufourspitze and the Dom.
First, the cog railway winds its way beneath the tree line through the picturesque Swiss stone pine forests of Riffelalp. It then crosses Alpine meadows on the Riffelberg, where the characteristic Blacknose sheep graze in summer. The higher the train travels, the fewer the Alpine flowers with the terrain becoming more rocky. Once you reach the Gornergrat, you are surrounded by a world of glaciers and peaks over 4,000 metres high.
