Village walk Täsch

Among the sights are the Trufferhaus as well as numerous old stables that have been converted for residential use. Also, the renovated old Valais houses as well as the old mill and bakery house bear witness to past times and the living conditions of the villagers.

Täsch was not always in the same location. According to tradition, before 1400, Täsch was buried by a huge landslide at the Täschgufer. The village was rebuilt around 1400 at its present location. "Gufer" means scree slope or debris pile in the local dialect.

Trufferhaus
The Trufferhaus is one of the village's protected buildings. It was built in 1766 and is thus one of the oldest houses in the village. It features the authentic Valais style, with the south side framed in wood and the north side built up of masonry. It has been renovated but is uninhabited. Brothers named Kronig, who worked as blacksmith, saddler, and cooper, are said to have lived here in the past. Later, the house was occupied by the Truffer family. Further renovated Valais houses in the village make beautiful photo subjects.

Barns, granaries, and sheds
Wherever you look, larger and smaller buildings show the typical dark, weathered larch wood coloring. Until 1950, the majority of inhabitants lived from agriculture. Barns, granaries, and stables were their economic buildings. These are wooden structures used for grain, supplies, cows, and small livestock. The barn stands on stilts with round stone plates to keep mice away. Granaries served as storage places for food, grain, flour, and dried meat.

The Täschbach
The catchment area of the stream extends from the slopes of Rothorn over the Rimpfischhorn to the Alphubel, all mighty four-thousanders. Accordingly, the stream could behave turbulently: it has caused floods several times: in 1870, 1957, and 2001. Structural measures at Lake Weingartensee, at Täschalp, and along the stream bed have calmed the stream. The Mattertal is low in precipitation. So it can happen that the waterfall at the village entrance is only a small trickle.

Old mill and bakery
Two old wooden buildings always attract attention. Once or twice a year, residents meet to bake sourdough bread together in the old bakery. This produces the typical Valais rye bread. And between Christmas and New Year, the old mill is started up.

Excursion to Lake Schalisee
Families with children and those seeking relaxation enjoy a refreshing swim in Lake Schalisee. Barbecue areas with tables and benches, small snack bar/restaurant, playgrounds, toilets. In summer, offerings include water skiing and a nearby golf course.
