Longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Alps

The Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge completes the Europaweg trail from Grächen to Zermatt, considered by some to be the most beautiful two-day hike in the Alps. If you walk the entire route, you can enjoy views of the Matterhorn, the Weisshorn and the Bernese Alps. The suspension bridge can also be reached on foot from Randa.

Description


The longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Alps is almost 500 metres long and spans the Grabengufer ravine from the Lärchberg to the Höüschbiel – 85 metres above the ground at its highest point. Access is free and thrills are guaranteed, as pedestrians walk on footbridges through which they can see the valley floor.

Accessing the bridge

On foot from Randa: 2 to 2.5 hours hiking time

On foot from Grächen: 6-7 hours hiking time

On foot from Zermatt: 6-7 hours hiking time

Opening times: May to October Avoid crossing the bridge during thunderstorms (risk of lightning).

The bridge is NOT passable in winter and will be reopened in spring. All liability is declined.
