Description

The ascent is leisurely, just far enough to see houses or forest depending on the section. The AHV route is by no means only for older people. It leads from the Winkelmatten Chapel slightly upward to the track of the Gornergrat Railway. Those who have never closely observed the metal teeth of a cogwheel railway will get their chance here. After that, it continues relatively flat. On the left are the hotels and houses of Zermatt, which sometimes also offer a little insight. Finally, the path fully enters the forest, where the pleasant blanket of winter comfort in the snow is laid over the hiker.
