Three years ago, the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II opened as the highest cross-border cable car connection in the Alps. Since then, the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing has connected Zermatt (CH) and Cervinia (IT) all year round – offering a unique alpine experience between two countries.

The journey leads from the car-free mountain village of Zermatt across glaciers and high-alpine landscapes to Breuil-Cervinia – always accompanied by the Matterhorn. Along the way, perspectives shift between cultures, landscapes and lifestyles. The experience itself is also continuously evolving: a new luggage transport service between Zermatt and Cervinia now provides additional comfort. Developments such as the “Cervino The One” project on the Italian side further strengthen the connection in a sustainable way.

To mark the third anniversary, Zermatt Bergbahnen and Cervino S.p.A. will celebrate the birthday of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing together on 28 June 2026 with a special offer. On this day, guests benefit from a 50% discount on the regular fare on the following routes:

  • Zermatt – Cervinia
  • Zermatt – Testa Grigia
  • Cervinia – Zermatt
  • Cervinia – Matterhorn Glacier Paradise

At Testa Grigia, guests can also enjoy an Italian aperitif in a unique atmosphere right at the border between Switzerland and Italy.
