SBB and Deutsche Bahn (DB) introduce new direct connections from Valais to Germany Travellers from Brig can now reach Mannheim, Frankfurt and Berlin without changing trains. As a symbol of this new link, an ICE train was christened “Matterhorn” during a ceremony held on Sunday in Brig, attended by media, politicians and regional representatives.
With the timetable change on 14 December, SBB, in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn, has introduced new direct connections from Valais to Germany. In future, passengers can travel directly and comfortably from Brig to Mannheim, Frankfurt and Berlin without having to change trains. Conversely, German visitors can reach Valais directly from cities such as Dortmund, Cologne, Frankfurt, Bremen and Hamburg.
To symbolise the connection between two railway regions, SBB and Deutsche Bahn christened an ICE train in Brig on 14 December. Philipp Mäder, Head of International Passenger Transport at SBB, commented: “With the christening of the ICE ‘Matterhorn’, we are sending a clear signal of our cooperation with Deutsche Bahn. The new direct connections make Valais even more accessible and link people, regions and economic areas in an environmentally friendly and comfortable way.”
Our destination is delighted that our loyal German guests can now reach Zermatt – Matterhorn even more easily and comfortably thanks to these attractive direct connections.
