Today marks a milestone in the digitalisation of tourism in the Zermatt - Matterhorn destination. As a premium destination, Zermatt is living up to its own claim of being at the forefront of digitalisation with the launch of the marketplace.
The digital marketplace brings together various tourist offers in one central location. Guests can not only book accommodation, but also activities, transport options and additional services such as ski passes or restaurant reservations conveniently and easily via the platform. This increases the attractiveness of Zermatt as a holiday destination and makes the region even more sustainable in the face of global competition.
The aim of the new marketplace is to optimise the guest experience while offering local service partners new business opportunities and taking on a pioneering role in the industry.
In future, the customer journey will begin even before arrival. With a platform that means more convenience for guests, where all offers for their stay are available from a single source. The holiday programme can be put together, booked and paid for with a single visit to the marketplace, without having to access different booking systems.
In addition, an innovative cancellation model ensures that guests remain flexible and at the same time protects service partners from high cancellation costs.
The digital marketplace also brings clear advantages for local service partners such as hotels, restaurants and leisure activity providers. They benefit from improved visibility and can market their services more efficiently. In addition, the marketplace enables partners to address customised offers directly to their target groups and thus strengthen customer loyalty. The service partner has fewer high commissions, no longer has to worry about collecting payments and there are no credit card fees.
The marketplace also provides valuable insights into the booking behaviour of guests, which enables the optimisation of offers and marketing strategies.
The overarching goal of the marketplace is to increase the conversion rate and reduce bookings from online travel agencies (booking) - in favour of bookings via zermatt.swiss. This in turn will reduce the fees paid to the OTAs. The commissions remain in the destination, which is reflected in higher added value for the region.
